Brief History of the instrument
La Cigar Box Guitar; In Spanish: Cigarette Box Guitar is a rememberor, which uses an empty cigarette box as a resonator. The former had one or two strings; the modern model typically uses three or four strings. Generally speaking, the strings are connected between the end of a stick that is inserted into the cigar box as a mast. Previously the Cigar Box Guitar were Fretless style, that is, without frets; but over time they were added to different models.
The cigars were packed in boxes, cages, barrels and as early as 1800, but the small boxes of size they know today did not exist before around 1840. Until then, the cigars were shipped in large boxes containing 100 or more for each case. After 1840, cigar makers began using smaller portable boxes with 20-50 cigars per box.
There are box instruments from 1840 to the 1860s. The most reliable proof of an ancient Cigar Box Guitar, dates from a cigar box instrument, copyrighted in 1876 by two soldiers of the Civil War.
