Description

Medieval Kravik harp or lyre by luthier

The Kravik lyre is the only medieval lyre that has not been discovered in an archaeological excavation. This instrument was hanging (albeit in a sad state of conservation) on a family farm in Kravik, Norway. It was “discovered” in the mid-1800s when it was documented as a set of technical drawings. At the time he was missing many parts, including the soundboard, but the carvings were still mostly intact and was considered a work of art.
